Caribbean Landbird Monitoring (CLM) Network
The Programa de América Latina para las Aves Silvestres (PROALAS) Manual was developed in Latin America, and was designed specifically with the tropics in mind. We have adapted these protocols to fit our unique Caribbean ecosystems.

What to do if you see a banded BIRD
Do your best to record the band colors and any numbers or letters, paying special attention to the location of the band or bands on the bird’s legs. Binoculars or zoom photography may allow you to clearly see the band colors and the numbers engraved onto the band- if you get a photo you will be able to send with along with your sighting. Scientists use this information to track bird populations and migrations. Report your sightings to BandedBirds.org and the USGS Bird Banding Lab which oversee all banding in the United States.

Landbird Outreach and Education
World Migratory Bird Day
As part of the Fall World Migratory Bird Day celebrations BirdsCaribbean has posted a series of “Birds Connect Our World” blogs featuring a migratory bird of the day. Each of these posts contacts facts about the bird, jigsaw puzzles, videos and fun activities for kids and adults.
Endemic Bird of the Day
Since 2020 BirdsCaribbean has been featuring an Endemic Bird of the Day during our annual celebration of the Caribbean Endemic Bird Festival each spring. This includes a coloring page, natural history information, range map, fun activity sheets, puzzles, photos, videos and more. To date 131 of 180 endemic species in the Caribbean have been featured and we will continue sharing 25-30 new birds each year until all the species have been covered. You can access the library of these endemic birds here.
Endemic Birds of the West Indies Colouring Book
Endemic Birds of the West Indies Colouring Book features 50 birds that are found only in the region. The 64-page book is beautifully illustrated by Christine Elder, with text by Mark Yokoyama. Each page features a bird in its habitat, a map showing where it lives, and facts about the bird. Fold-out covers show what every bird looks like in colour. The book offers children of all ages the opportunity to learn interesting facts while learning the techniques of colouring the birds’ vibrant plumage. Fun activities and a glossary are included at the back. The book, created by BirdsCaribbean, is available for purchase and for free download below.
